We love running!!
We’re all different, but we have one thing in common – we love running. It’s great when you meet people who share your passion.
We want to encourage that passion within you! We want to share our passion about running, the sport and lifestyle of runners to you.
This site was created to be the meeting place where people can learn how to be better runners. One thing that we love about running is the way we feel after: energized, refreshed and happy. We hope that this is exactly how you feel after coming to our site!

If someone would have told me when I was 15 that I’d be a runner today, I would have laughed! I played volleyball and basketball in high school, and I would have told that person running was how coaches punished me for missing foul shots - and trust me, I missed a lot! But the week before I turned 18, I finished my final season of team sports, and started running on my own. I quickly stopped associating running with punishment. Instead, it became my source of freedom. That was more than twelve years and thousands of miles ago.
Outside of running, I am a television news writer and producer. Apparently the idea got stuck in my head early. My grandma says when I was 5 I told her I was going to be the next Connie Chung. By the time I was 16, I wanted to be the first female play-by-play radio announcer for the Detroit Tigers. I’m no Connie Chung, and I haven’t been in a radio booth since college, but my career in tv has been everything I dreamed.
One of the coolest things I did last year was run Atlanta’s Peachtree Road Race, finishing in a time that even surprised myself. I was thrilled because I’ve struggled with some chronic hip and lower back injuries over the years, and getting myself to the starting line healthy was a good feeling, let alone finishing fast! I’m hoping this blog will help me put a positive spin on my injuries by sharing advice from the awesome doctors and therapists who have cheered me on, when others have told me to quit.
The Peachtree 10K wasn’t the only standout event of last year. I also had a moment with Bruce Springsteen. I love Bruce. I don’t care if he’s 60. He rocks. I was turned onto his music by my boyfriend (who I actually met in a running store, but that’s a completely different story). I saw Bruce and the E-Street Band four times last year. At the Charlotte, NC tour stop, I ran up to the stage holding a sign with a song request – and Bruce pointed at me and asked me to pass him my sign. It…was…thrilling! Don’t be surprised when his name pops up in the blog from time to time. After all, tramps like us, baby, we were born to run.

Carl Leivers
Hi there! I'm Carl Leivers and I've been a runner now for 15 years. I was never an elite-level athlete, but I loved to compete and did have some success -- probably my proudest moment being a top-25 finish in the Pikes Peak Ascent.
I started coaching five years ago and have had a great time teaching and helping others to run faster. When I see an athlete set a new PR or run a great race, it is a reminder of the great things you can accomplish in running through your own hard work.
When I'm not running or coaching, I love browsing record shops, finding new beers and wines to try, and trying to figure out what the heck is going on in 'Lost'.
Also, one of my hidden talents is a world-class ability to road-trip. The pinnacle may have been a 10-day, 14,000 mile odyssey with three friends where we ran in each of the lower 48 states. But, whether I'm heading to a Springsteen concert, visiting friends, or just enjoying the open road, I rarely turn down the opportunity to do some long-distance driving!
I'm looking forward to sharing some of the knowledge I've gained over the years, but, more importantly, I'm looking forward to having a conversation with all of you about running -- how we can do it better and how we can enjoy it more.
So, please use the comments section and if you have a specific issue you'd like to see addressed, feel free to contact me through this site!

Staci Márquez-Nichols
I have been running since I was 6 years old. I've been a state champion in the 50 meter dash and finalist in the 100 and 200 meter. I set a school record in the 400 meter and low hurdles and was voted MVP of the track team more than once. In college, I was a two-time NCAA All-American in the high jump, broke a 20-year-old school record, set a conference meet record, and broke numerous stadium records. Proving my love of running, since graduation, I have been a top finisher in 5K events and even published poetry about running!
Aside from my track accomplishments, I graduated college Phi Beta Kappa with honors in 3 years (Yes, there is a year of track eligibility floating around out there somewhere). I graduated high school with 7 years perfect attendance, was the Honor Society President, and lettered in Debate every year. Last year, I published my first book called 101 Vegetarian Eating & Living Tips.
I am passionate about many things, but mostly social, political, and health issues. I am a documentary junkie who loves Jon Stewart and Ralph Nader. In addition to writing, I also own a handmade soap company. I am very concerned with safe, natural products, eating well (I've been a strict vegetarian for 17 years), spirituality, and wellness.
And as far as I know, I'm the only poetry-writing jock in town who can jump over most people's heads!
